One last thing, in regards to my quote: The two alien characters, after telling my party about the origins of the disease, said that they could help in making a vaccine for it. (What to spend these skill points on, if there's different character builds, or points of no return I need to keep a look out for) Or if you just want to share your thoughts! Just try not to spoil too much! :) Any tips that could help will be appreciated, of course. Only about an hour in so far, so I don't have HEAVY opinions on it just yet, but it seems okay so far. We get beamed up to the ship to help with a cure for one of my party members and that's where I left off. Suddenly two characters show up from space and tell me about an Underdeveloped Planetary Preservation Pact or something and how another space group broke it and released a contagion on the world. The anime only focused on the fantasy aspect, after all. I figured it was a "fantasy" in the same vein as Tales where it seems to blend fantasy & sci-fi together and I just started in a backwater village. I gain some levels, some "skill points" which I'm not sure what to do with yet, and then I head up a mountain, looking for a herb to cure a disease that petrifies its victims that struck a nearby village.
I need to treat this like Tales, not Final Fantasy! Rest of the fights go smoothly as I come to this realization. I enter, push X.my character dashes forward and swings his sword! X again and again.

Definitely an old game, as there's no "tutorial." I check the PS4 page for a "Manual" but to no avail.
Bandits, invading town! I enter the fight, and it being a Square game and, again, not having any knowledge of the series.sat there confused as my main character just sat there with the healer while the other swordsman rushes in and beats the bandits. I explore with no real direction, and eventually get the first fights to appear. Time to start!įrom there, I'm introduced into a small town consisting of two screens and a few houses.

I have high tolerance for voice acting, plus it would allow my wife to fully enjoy it with me from her spot on the couch. I went with the newer art and English VAs. I started my New Game and was given the choice of artstyle and voice overs. I was treated to an anime opening that gave me real strong old-school Tales Of vibes. I bought it, made a point to download it, and with my subscription to Endwalker ending, I finally decided to boot it up last night. Star Ocean: First Departure R was released late 2019 and I was for sure going to jump on that! Perfect time! But I kept putting it off.

I preordered and purchased the PS3 and PS4 game. My wife had a copy of the 2nd game on PS1 from when she was younger.

I don't remember where the 3rd one came from that's on my PS2 shelf. I found used copies of the first two games on PSP. Over the years, hearing that they were good RPGs, I kept purchasing them, but never got around to any of them. An anime that, from what I'm told, only covers the first part of the 2nd game. My experience with Star Ocean is practically non-existent, with my last interaction with it being the anime that I watched a little over a decade ago.
